Sasso reflects

Description: Hope Kelly reports that John Sasso, the former Chairman of Michael Dukakis' 1988 campaign, addressed members of the World Trade Club and spoke about the campaign. Sasso spoke about the Democratic Party, the role of Jesse Jackson, and the failure of the Dukakis campaign to win over voters. Sasso talks about the need for the Democratic Party to recognize Jackson's leadership. He also says that negative political advertising was not the reason for Dukakis's defeat. Kelly reviews Sasso's career and his role in the 1988 presidential campaign. She reviews Sasso's resignation from and return to the Dukakis campaign. Kelly's report includes footage of Dukakis and Jackson at the 1988 Democratic National Convention and footage of Sasso during the 1988 presidential campaign.

Seabrook evacuation zone

Description: Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant is working to license their plant through the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, while Rep. Description: Convening of a Joint Committee of the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives. Interiors of the State House. Michael Dukakis proceeds into the chamber and delivers the State of the State address (for his first term as governor). His address touches on the state of Massachusetts towns, specifically North Adams, and the great benefits Massachusetts is able to provide people who need extra attention, including the elderly, handicapped, mentally disabled, mentally ill, and disadvantaged children. State purchasing and South Africa

Description: Christy George reports that Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to divest its pension funds from South Africa five years ago. She adds that apartheid opponents are backing a selective purchasing bill that would bar the state from buying goods and services from companies who do business in South Africa. Ric Murphy, State Purchasing Agent, testifies in support of the bill in front of state legislators. Joseph Hermann, Chairman of State Administration Committee, wants the state to stop doing business with all countries with repressive governments. Hermann testifies before state legislators. Governor Michael Dukakis supports the bill. The bill will probably not be passed in time to help his presidential campaign. Former State Senator Jack Backman speaks in support of Dukakis. Georges' report is also accompanied by footage of scenes from apartheid South Africa and by footage of IBM workers and laborers in South Africa.

Vietnamese fishermen

Description: Vietnamese fishermen inaugurate their refurbished boat "Miss Liberty," which was banned two years ago for not having the proper equipment. Interview with one of the Vietnamese refugee fishermen,who formed a cooperative and bought a fully equipped boat that would not be in conflict with the lobster industry in the Boston Harbor. Michael and Kitty Dukakis congratulate them and their families on the Fish Pier. Michael Dukakis addresses the audience.
