Cox, Drinan, Kennedy Sargent - on Nixon pardon

Description: Story #9883. Statements by Father Robert Drinan, Governor Sargent Francis, special prosecutor for the Watergate scandal Archibold Cox, and Senator Edward Kennedy on President Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon. Mary McKay interview with Father Drinan on the street. Drinan thinks that the pardon is in violation of the spirit of the United State Constitution. Governor Sargent, surrounded by news microphones, does not believe that Nixon should go to jail, but the implications of pardoning him for crimes that an ordinary citizen would go to jail for is concerning. Seated at a desk, Archibald Cox reads a statement in response to the pardon, and believes that it violates the principal of our government to pardon the President in advance of the Grand Jury Hearing. Interview with Kennedy on a pier. He comments on how pardon may signify a pardon for draft evaders, and is concerned that the pardon may have been done too soon.

Urban Renewal

Description: Story #10079. Reel begins with reporter voice over, followed by an interview with Mr. Jacobs, the Executive director of San Francisco's Planning and Urban Renewal Association, about urban renewal in Boston and his view of the city. Silent b-roll of various buildings and signs around the city. Reporter standup, in which he explains that about 2000 housing and development experts from around the country are in Boston for a meeting to discuss urban renewal and the impact of the 1974 Housing and development act on the nation. Anti Racist/Union Women N.C.

Description: Woman speaks at a press conference on the need for the Labor Movement to fight against the institutionalized racism in Boston, especially against those opposed to school integration. She encourages people to attend a rally against racism, to be held the next day on the Boston Common. A man from a labor union notes the endorsement of the rally by several higher up in his union. Woman condemns the Boston School Committee, especially Louise Day Hicks and John Kerrigan, for their anti-busing stance, which she says is racist and unfair for black and Latino children. People continue to speak for school integration, voices heard over blank screen. Women hang banner reading, "End Racist Attacks: Coalition of Labor Union Women." Description: Silent footage of the L Street Brownies, one the oldest "polar bear" club in the US, during one of their annual New Year's swims.
