Cox on judicial reform

Description: Reporters set up microphones at podium. Archibald Cox chairs a press conference on judicial reform and court reorganization. He describes the effects and causes of delays in the Massachusetts courts and the budgets associated with the courts. He is flanked by Alan Sisitsky, Michael Dukakis, Kevin Harrington, Michael Flaherty, and Francis Bellotti. He thanks committee that did the study. Attorney General Francis Bellotti expresses his support of the committee, which he hopes will be able to bring about the necessary judicial reform.

Norfolk jail

Description: Norfolk County House of Correction exteriors. Courtroom sketches of school committee member Paul Ellison, attorney Monroe Inker, Judge Walter McLaughlin. The Norfolk County House of Correction is a minimum security prison. It is considered the cleanest, and one of the oldest in the Commonwealth. It is overcrowded, like many other correctional institutions. Its capacity is 72 inmates, while the current population is 126. The facility has a work release program, a welding class, educational programs, and maintenance crews. Recently convicted, Paul Ellison was previously a history teacher in the Boston Public School system.

Suffolk Courthouse security

Description: Suffolk County Courthouse hallway. Surveillance camera. A monitor displays output of cameras at three vantage points. Guard scans visitors with metal detector, frisks some; goes over belts, pockets, looks in briefcases, bags. Men remove hats to show nothing is hidden. Interview about newly installed security system since April bombing. Details are given on how the security system can be used to deter incidents as well as to apprehend suspects after the fact.
