Celebrated Irish poet and Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney died today in a Dublin hospital at the age of 74. The twelfth collection of Heaney's poetry, Human Chain, was published in 2010. His personal literary notes were donated and delivered personally to the National Library of Ireland in December 2010. Read a full obituary here.
The Boston TV News Digital Library has over ten news stories spanning 1982-1986 featuring Heaney, a few in conjunction with Derek Walcott. Three of these stories have been digitized so far. Although we aren't able to post the video to the site yet, we're happy to share these still images in remembrance of this great man. Make sure you check back when we start streaming video, so you can watch some truly remarkable readings of his work.
Update: As of October 21, 2013 there is video related to this post on our website.
