Macaque monkeys

Description: Macaque (rhesus) monkeys at Harvard Medical School primate research center in Southborough. Group of about 20 monkeys constantly jump, climb and scamper around large observation chamber lined with wood shavings. They are social and extremely active. Lab environs with baby monkeys in individual cages and incubators. Technicians hold, clean, bottle feed, burp them. Close-up on two monkeys hugging.

Mail sorting

Description: Mail sorting facility at South Boston Annex of US Postal Service. Workers (one wears ear protection) sit in long line, each next to robotic arm that grabs individual envelopes and feeds them through equipment. In another room, contents of big sacks are dumped onto belt for manual sorting. Letters move past worker who keys in code for each.

Description: Dr. Mary Ellen Avery, pediatrician at Children's Hospital, talks about hyaline membrane disease and respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants. (Lung tissue is stiff, making breathing difficult, and can lead to broncho-pulmonary dysplasia.) Vitamin E as antioxidant is suggested as treatment in recent study at Yale New Haven Medical Center. Description: Interview with inmate at Walpole prison about lock-up of B section (maximum security). Filthy interiors of cell block, dirty showers, debris from meals accumulated on floor.
