Description: A large crowd is gathered outside of the Bunker Hill Housing Project on Bunker Hill Street in Charlestown on the first day of school. Boston police, MDC police and US Marshals line Bunker Hill Street, making efforts to control the crowds. Police officers in riot helmets march in formation along the street. Police helicopters circle overhead. Police officers are stationed on the roof of a housing project building. The police officers demand that the crowd move onto the sidewalk. A crowd of youth leaves the housing project and walks up Bunker Hill Street, away from police.
1:00:06: Visual: Crowds are gathered along Bunker Hill Street in Charlestown. Police are stationed along street. An MBTA bus is stopped in the street. Several people, including Mon O'Shea (Associate Dean, Bunker Hill Community College) stop to speak to a police captain. MDC police officers march in formation up the street, followed by MDC officers on motorcycles. The media mills about, photographing police and crowds. Police radios and crowd noise are audible. MDC police line up in the intersection of Bunker Hill and Monument Streets. The MBTA bus passes through the intersection. Tactical Patrol Force (TPF) officers march in formation toward the intersection of Bunker Hill and Monument Streets. A voice commands onlookers to get off the street and onto the sidewalks. Helicopter noise is audible. 1:16:46: V: A large crowd is gathered in Monument Street outside of the Bunker Hill Housing Project. Dennis Kearney (State Representative) is visible in the crowd. Police motorcycles are lined up in the intersection of Bunker Hill and Monument Streets, facing the housing project. Helicopter noise is audible. A sign in the shape of a gravestone is posted on a building: "Charlestown is mourning for the loss of its neighborhood schools. September 8, 1975." The crowd mills about on Monument Street among the housing project buidings. Police officers are stationed on the roofs of project buildings. 1:18:51: V: A large group of youth streams out of the housing project onto Bunker Hill Street. The crowd greets them with a cheer and begins to chant, then stops. Bunker Hill Street is crowded with cars, police motorcycles and people. The crowd of youth appears to be moving up the street, away from police.
